Writing Prompt

I thought of a cool writing prompt.
What if one day you woke up and everyone in the whole world was just gone. No sign of what happened to them. And the world was just the same, everything in it's place, just the people missing. What would you do? How would you react to waking up to no family, friends, anyone? How would you survive, would you look for people, or just do what you always wanted to do?

Super fun idea. Maybe we should end this other progressive story soon and start with this as a new one.

Things I've Learned About Writing, By Writing

Let's face it, anti-writing might be the same as writing. But Writing, with a capital W, just puts on so much pressure. It's a scary place, all white and sterile and expecting no less than perfection, and it's a very bad place for creativity. Creativity, I've found, wants to go hide behind the nearest stainless steel table. So I've come up with my own set of rules.

1. Allow yourself to be bad.

2. Humility is huge. (See #1)

3. Creating and editing really are two different processes and must be done separately. Both are a form of play, but one form of play cancels out the other. In the first form, you make a clay-like medium out of various random elements, and in the second, you mold it. The first is a process of discovery, the second, a process of order. How can you order what has not yet been created? How can you create and mold at the same time?

P.S. Discovery hates rules (see #1). Order loves them.

4. Every single person has both the story and the rules inside of them. We sense it subconsciously, and we should trust that inner voice. On the downside, trial and error might be the only way to uncover it. And possibly, other people helping you (see #2), which brings me to rule #5, the hardest:

5. Balance. In all things, but specifically: when to listen to other people, and when (like the arrows on a tampon wrapper) to ignore them. In other words, believe in yourself. Just not too much. Do you see where I have difficulty with this rule?

6. I believe God is the one who releases the muse guy from the muse guy school in the clouds to come and pay me a visit. Creation is a God-given talent, and as we learn to create, we grow as people. We have a divine potential, and the One who created us can show us who we are.

7. When we grow as a person, we grow as a writer.
